Unedited, and Not All of It Flattering
A recurring theme below is people spending less than they expected to. That is not a marketing angle, it is what happens when the fitter is not paid on component revenue.
I had been told for four years that I was flipping at the ball. Turned out my grips were two sizes small and I was squeezing the life out of them. Two wraps of tape and a midsize compound, and the flip mostly went away on its own. I did not spend a dollar on new clubs.
The wedge session was worth the drive from Fernandina by itself. I came in wanting a low-bounce 60 because that is what everyone plays, and Renata talked me out of it inside twenty minutes using nothing but the turf board. I stopped chunking it out of wet rough that same week.
Dale spent the first half hour of my driver session measuring my hands and I genuinely thought I had walked into the wrong business. Then he built the thing three quarters of an inch shorter with a bigger grip and I hit more fairways in the next month than the previous season.
What sold me was the card. I took it to a shop in Atlanta while travelling for work, they read it, and they built exactly what it said. No proprietary nonsense, no having to come back here for everything.
Jenna changed almost nothing about my putter head and everything about how I hold it. The grip cross-section she put on is squarer than I would ever have picked and my start line tightened up immediately. Third session in a row here where I bought less than I expected to.
I brought in a fifteen-year-old set that belonged to my father and asked whether it was worth keeping. They measured every club, told me four of them were badly out of lie, and fixed them for less than the price of one new iron. That is not a business trying to maximise a ticket.
The groove report was eye-opening. My gap wedge was fine and my 56 was completely done, which is the opposite of what I assumed since the 56 looked cleaner. Replaced one club instead of three.
Theo re-checked my irons after the epoxy cured and found two of them had moved half a degree. He fixed it and told me about it afterwards, which I only found out because it was written on the card. Nobody would have known if he had said nothing.
I came in sceptical about the hands-first thing and left with an explanation for a miss I had been fighting since I started playing. Three months later the ninety-day adjustment was a five minute tape change and they did not charge me for it.
Where We Get It Wrong
We are slow. A single club takes ninety minutes and a bag takes two visits, and there is no way to compress that without cutting the cure and re-check, which we will not do. If you need clubs by the weekend, we are the wrong shop.
We also cannot compete on component price with a large retailer running a seasonal promotion. We bill at cost plus a flat build charge and that is genuinely the floor for us. What you are paying for here is the measurement and the bench work, not the parts.
And we will occasionally tell you the problem is not your equipment. Some people find that frustrating after driving across town. We would rather say it than sell you a club that cannot fix a swing pattern.
